Ashley Bickerton: Ornamental Hysteria

Newport Street Gallery
Until August 20
Themes including nightmares, eroticism and ‘the end of the world’ are to be explored at Ashley Bickerton’s upcoming Newport Street gallery exhibition.

Bickerton’s early consumerist works will be presented alongside a selection of his tropical mixed media exhibits.

Featuring around fifty works, across each of the six vast gallery spaces, the exhibition will span more than three decades of Bickerton’s career. Both new and previously un-exhibited pieces will be included.

The contemporary artist uses photography, painting and sculpture in his practice - which often investigates consumerism and the commodification of art objects.

Exhibits from his well-known ‘blue man’ series will be displayed; Bickerton describes these bold and vibrant works as ‘parodies of what a painting is supposed to be’.
