Gregory Crewdson: Cathedral of Pines

Photographers' Gallery
Until October 08
The Photographers’ Gallery is presenting the UK's first ever solo show of artist Gregory Crewdson. In an unprecedented move by the gallery, all of its exhibition spaces have been dedicated to “Cathedral of the Pines” for the duration of the show.

The exhibition takes its name from a series of thirty-one large-scale digital prints: figures pose in areas and dwellings around the town of Beckett, Massachusetts, surrounded by forests.

The results are visually stunning, powerful and haunting. Crewdson’s atmospheric and alluring scenes create a visual suspense akin to Hopper, Hitchcock or David Lynch - reminiscent of nineteenth-century American and European paintings.
